Personal Seminars with Ken Cook
Master of Photography

Who is Ken Cook?

For over 47 years Ken Cook has been striving to produce the highest quality photography possible. Ken is the third generation of a successful four-generation photography business. He joined the family business in 1954, near the end of the golden age of photography. He studied and mentored with the last of the great masters of the forties and fifties black and white era.

In 1956, Ken introduced color photography into his business, and has developed and printed his own work since 1959. In 1962, he was awarded the P.P.A. Master of Photography degree, and at that time was the youngest portrait master in the U.S. He has since then accumulated over 225 P.P.A. merits until his retirement from the lecture circuit in 1979.

Ken has taught advanced techniques at Winona School of Photography, Brookes Institute and at the Pacific Northwest School of Photography in Washington state. He has given two presentations at the P.P.A. National Convention, and has judged the P.P.A. National Print Competition five times. By 1979 Ken had given programs and lectures in 35 U.S. states, Canada, Germany and Austria.

What will you learn?

Your personal seminar will include the use of short, broad, buterfly, split, line and Rembrandt lighting patterns, as well as, the use of flat fill versus from fill, low-key, and medium key. You will learn how these techniques apply to both young and elderly subjects.

Ken will demonstrate the use of strobes in polished reflectors, parabolic umbrellas, the new Masters Brush and options and uses of soft boxes.

Finally you will be shown the dynamics of reading the faces and hair of your subjects, the techniques of retouching by light patterns and reflection, and the importance of proper posing.

What is Ken's Purpose?

Ken has always had, to this day, a God given desire to learn and excel in photography, and has used his gift to infuse each subject before his camera with the utmost flattery. He feels strongly the obligation to pass this on to the younger generation of photographers.
